Abstract:

Large percent of population in the developing countries are using traditional medicine to solve their primary
medical problems. Pumpkin is among the plants that has been frequently used as functional food or medicine.
This article aimed to highlight the holy value of pumpkin and to summarize the scientific evidences on the its
nutritious value and possible medicinal properties and benefits of pumpkin, nutritious value. and different
activities induced by it.
Pumpkin is rich with many nutrients like protein, dietary fiber, essential fatty acid, iron, niacin, manganese, zinc,
phosphorus and magnesium and it is a good source of riboflavin, pantothenic acid, folate, sodium and
potassium, beta-carotene, provitamin A and vitamin A
During the last decade, many researches has been conducted researches to explore the potential biological
actions induced by of pumpkin and its popular medicinal uses using based on recent techniques and tools.
These researches demonstrated that pumpkin has the antidiabetic, hypotensive, anticarcenogenic,
immunomodulation, antibacteria, antiparasitia, hypocholesterolemia, antiinflammation and antalgic activities of
pumpkin.
