An efficient, simple, rapid and economical colorimetric method for specific determination of microgram amounts of
bisacodyl in pure and pharmaceutical preparations has been developed. The proposed method is based on an
oxidative coupling reaction between bisacodyl and ansidine reagent in presence of Sodiumnitroprusside an oxidant
agent in neutral media to form an intense purple color product that has a ? max 542.4 nm. Linearity of calibration
graph was observed in the range of (1.00–3.00) µg.ml-1 with molar absorptivity of (14.502 ×103 L.mol-1.cm-1) ,a
Sandall sensitivity of (0.024 µg.cm-2) , correlation coefficient of (0.990) , detection limit (0.013 µg.ml-1) and the
relative standard deviation of RSD% (1.51-5.35).The developed method was applied to successfully for the estimation
of bisacodyl tablets and suppositories.
