Anogeissus latifolia Wall (Combretaceae) is a bulky or fair-sized tree existing all over India. The plant is
traditionally utilized for various ailments including dysentery, hepatopathy, snakebite, leprosy, wounds, ulcers, skin
diseases and diabetic conditions. The current study meant to evaluate the antidiabetic prospective of the
methanol extract of barks of Anogeissus Latifolia in D-EMC virus-induced diabetes. The D variant of EMC virus was
utilized to infect the mice for induction of pancreatic beta cell damage leading to diabetes. Diabetes was
established by estimating the serum glucose levels. The confirmed diabetic animals were further assembled in
groups and utilized for the study. Various other biochemical markers were also evaluated which include insulin,
liver glycogen, leptin, testosterone and glucagon levels. Liver functions and lipid profile were also measured. The
results demonstrated potential antidiabetic efficacy of the methanol extract at both the dose level of 200 and 400
mg/kg. In conclusion, the methanol extract of barks of Anogeissus Latifolia was established to be significant
antidiabetic.
