The present paper describes an ecofriendly and economical method for the synthesis of azomethines by using ptoluidine
and various aromatic aldehydes as reactants. All the reactions were performed under microwave irradiation
and the reactions were catalyzed by aqueous solution of polyacrylic acid which is a biodegradable polymer. A proper
choice of the solvent and reaction conditions allowed the final products to be generated in excellent yields in a onestep
procedure. Microwave irradiation method gives advantages like reduction in reaction time and increase in
percentage yield. The structures of synthesized compounds were confirmed by melting point, IR, H1-NMR, C13-NMR
spectroscopy.
