The present investigation was undertaken to assess the enzymatic (Catalase and Peroxidase) and non-enzymatic antioxidant (Ascorbic acid and flavonoids) properties of two medicinal plants namely Aegle marmelos (Bael) and Centellaasiatica (Gotukala). The herbal leaf extract of the plants were prepared with the solvent namely petroleum ether, methanol and acetone by using standard methods. For enzymatic antioxidant activity significant increase of catalase (80.30± 0.72 µg/g protein) and peroxidase activity (83.62 ± 1.72 µg/g) was achieved in methanol and acetone leaf extract of Aegle marmelos. In case of non-enzymatic antioxidant assay Centellaasiatica showed maximum ascorbic acid (0.951 ± 0.06 µg/g) and flavonoids (0.980 ± 0.03 µg/g) content inpetroleum ether leaf extract. The findings indicated a promising antioxidant activity of crude extracts of the above plants and needs further exploration for their effective use in both modern and traditional system of medicines.
